Tom is Director of Technology – Content Supply & Distribution at ITV. Leading an in-house technology team, he is accountable for the technology strategy, engineering and programme delivery for ITV’s internal technology platforms that support its Broadcast, Commercial and Content Distribution services, and for the technology developments delivered by ITVs Broadcast managed service providers. This includes functions such as Rights Management and Content Scheduling, through to Broadcast Playout, Linear & VOD Content Distribution.
Tom studied at Manchester University before starting a career in engineering and then project & programme management, along the way working for the National Physical Laboratory, BBC, Siemens and Atos before joining ITV in 2013. Whilst Tom was working with the BBC, he was part of the team that developed the plans for the BBCs move to Salford, and what has now become the thriving Mediacity development.
In his time at ITV, Tom has been responsible for the implementation of new TV channels; the modernisation of the content preparation & delivery systems ; re-engineering of the simulcast infrastructure for OTT delivery of ITVs linear channels; the successful delivery of a major programme to modernise ITV’s legacy Air Time Sales systems; and oversight of a large portfolio of technology projects to support business development activities. Current focus areas are the digital transformation of core content planning & delivery activities; growing our in-house software engineering and product management capability; the migration of content technology and core business systems to the cloud; and the transition of TV to an IP future.
